Our brand name
Rufous Sengi, or the East African long-eared elephant-shrew, is a species of elephant shrew in the family Macroscelididae. It lives in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. It enjoys dry savannas and subtropical or tropical dry shrublands.
What makes it relevant for us however, is its incredible agility exhibited at high speeds when escaping predators among which much faster falcons. The elephant-shrew has a high escape rate considering much faster predators.
On the surface, its secret is simple - extreme agility. However, if you look deeper it becomes clear that there is something else that underpins its agility - strategy. The elephant-shrew plans for the battle and acts accordingly before it even starts. This is the very definition of strategy: what you do before the battle.
The elephant-shrew plans, creates and maintains a wide network of trails. It knows them by heart. Wherever it happens to be, when a predator swoops in, the shrew has its escape path already planned. Its agility does not come from supernatural reflexes - it comes from knowing well every move it will make before it makes it.
Our experience has taught us that the same is true for organizations. Agility is an outcome of a good strategy.
That is why we adopted Sengi as our name, taking inspiration from this little African critter.
